NCAP imagery assists weapons search

Geophysical investigations are to be carried out at West End Primary School in Elgin, following the identification of a Second World War trench in the school grounds.

RAF aerial photography of Elgin dating from 1943 was examined on the NCAP website by staff at Moray Council, leading to the identification of the trench and military vehicles in the school playing fields. It is thought that the site was used by the Home Guard during the Second World War, and while it is not likely that live ammunition was stored there the local authority believes that weapons could have been buried at the site. They intend to excavate and deal with any anomalies identified by the geophysical survey before children return to school in late August.
