US digitisation partnership begins

A major digitisation partnership that will transform public access to historical aerial photography has now commenced. In the first stage of the partnership, NCAP is working in partnership with the US National Archives & Records Administration (NARA) to progressively digitise 40,000 rolls of aerial film created during the Second World War. The images created will be systematically released on the NCAP website.

This is the first partnership to digitise the extensive NARA holdings of aerial photography. The first batch of images released will include American-captured aerial photographs of Eastern Europe and southern England, taken by the German Luftwaffe during the Second World War. The next release will focus on aerial photographs that record D-Day, the Battle of Normandy and the 1944 Liberation of France.

More information on the digitisation programme with NARA will be posted on this website shortly.
